Part 1 of DT2 class assignment: Updating this blooooooog...... I'm sorry I posted this up late. I totally crashed on Thursday after I got home, and after the HIVE party on Friday... =(
Sorry Mr Lau.

  1. Reflections on Marketing assignment (500 words at least)
  • We are the ASS team, the good and the bad: The good thing about our team is that we did not have any conflicts during the progress of this assignment. Also, we check back with each other on every single issue concerning the report. For example: product benefits. If either of us have thought about something extra to put in, we will check with each other if the idea fits into the big picture of the product and what our brand is all about. Also, we have a mutual understanding with each other, so that we understand when the other hasn't finished a part that should have already been done by a certain date. Also, we know each other's strengths and weaknesses well enough to split the parts of the assignment accordingly. For example, Siu Yun feels that I am stronger with illustrations, therefore I did the black outline of our product. And Siu Yun is more familiar with adding colour to outlines and editing photos/pictures/images and so she did the poster and added colour to our product. The bad thing about our team is that we both found it challenging to fully grasp the marketing concepts at first, there were a lot of doubts from beginning to end. But now, we have a much better understanding about marketing, having done the assignment and reading through each other's parts of the report. Another bad thing about our team is that we are natural procrastinators and are currently doing our best to cut the slackings and pasting the need-to-do-now mindset in place. We procrastinated on confirming our product, reason being because I assumed that we were gonna use our first idea. However, when Siu Yun expressed to me that it would be difficult for us to do something that is so uncommon, I started to panic. But the thing is, after I let it saturate in my mind overnight, I came to a realization that what she said was true. See how slow we worked? But I feel that even though we were slow, we worked well together. There were no conflicts, no clash of opinions, no clash of interests. It was overall, quite a smooth sailing partnership. =)

2. Talk more about your motivations (and lack) in this period.

  • We actually had a lot of motivations during this period. A lot of the our motivations actually came from each other. When we felt like the other was dying out, we would the other person to take it easy, and that we are a team, that we CAN do this and that we are in this together. All the cheesey stuff. But it worked for the both of us, we assured each other that we are here for each other. That alone, actually served as a great motivation for me. I was dying while trying to draw out a super slim laptop in perspective. It was very time consuming to draw the 3 isometric views. All through it i kept complaining to Siu Yun, but she never once lost her temper at me. She just said, "jia you! I know you can do it!" and that just automatically made me want to do it, it made me want to continue to draw no matter how tedious it was. Another motivation for me was seeing how hard my other classmates were working on the assignment. It didn't make me feel guilty or anything. It actually made me feel good about being in a class where the most of the people are hardworking and reliable. And this good feeling is another motivation that helped me through this assignment. Cause when you feel good, you'll WANT to do your work, do it to the best of your ability. In the middle of all the stressing, my body and mind finally turned it's 'WORK' mode on and I just kept going, doing my assignment, just non-stop from there on.

3. How were you able to motivate yourself? How did you pick yourself up after some disappointment or failure?

  • Honesly, I don't think I motivated myself at all. It was all Siu Yun, my classmates and several external factors that did. And how I picked myself up after failing to understand 80% of the marketing concepts, is by simply reading up on all of them. Through the internet, Azhar's lecture notes, asking my classmates and double checking with Siu Yun. After doing all this, I felt a lot better about writing the report and I guess, the research I did was a motivation itself. I find that when you read up on something that you totally do not know, makes you feel more knowledgeable and more confident in writing a report about it, or maybe even a short paragraph about it. Okay, so maybe this part I DID motivate myself a little.

4. How now? What next?

  • Right now, I am just starting on the brochure for YNTUC. I aim to finish at least the layout and 4 pages tomorrow, National Day. Haha. I am not really gonna watch the parade. I'm going to work from 9am t0 7pm on the brochure, then i'm going out with my friend to take a break from school work. Design fatigue. Next up after YNTUC is my coffee table book. I'll talk more about it when I update Part 2 of this week's class assignment tomorrow. Heh heh. But really, I have no idea WHY or HOW, but my mind and body and heart keeps telling me that I want to do work, like, every day after the BDS marketing assignment submission. And also, after I told Siu Yun : Let's not do any more last minute work. Lol. Okay, that's why. But I think I might have found a new purpose or rather, a new goal here. It is weird because I feel like the marketing assignment changed me into a totally new person, who is ready to put in the hard work, sweat and tears for every single assignment here on out. This is gonna be real interesing.
